Reasoning from effect to cause, Mrs. Eddy felt certain that there must be a divine law somewhere back of this healing, and feeling impelled to find it out for herself, she retired from the world for a period of three whole years, during which time she gave herself up entirely to a search of the Scriptures, in order to find (in her own words) the Science of Mind, that should take the things of God and show them to the creature, and reveal the great curative Principle, - Deity. She declares that the Bible was her only text-book, that it answered all her questions as to how she was healed, but, she says, the Scriptures had to me a new meaning, a new tongue.
